MUSIC AND HEATH

Over 400 neurochemistry research articles have shown that playing and listening to music has clear benefits for physical health. In particular, music would improve the functioning of the immune system and would reduce the level of stress.

Listening to music has also been shown to be more effective than prescription drugs in reducing anxiety before surgery.

"We have found convincing evidence that musical interventions can play a role in health care in contexts ranging from operating rooms to family clinics," said Professor Daniel J. Levitin of the Department of Psychology at McGill University. ".But more importantly, we were able to document the neurochemical mechanisms by which music has an effect in four areas:

  • mood management

  • stress

  • immunity

  • assistance in strengthening social ties.

Indeed, studies have shown that music increases both immunoglobulin A, and the number of natural killer cells (cells that attack invaders), germs and bacteria.

Many experiences include discovering the bond between oxytocin, the so-called "love drug" and music.
